RUMAH KEDUA

INSPIRED BY A TRUE STORY

SYNOPSIS

Behind Bali's image as one of the world's most celebrated tourist destinations are thousands of workers who have travelled far from their hometowns in search of opportunity. Baskara is one of them. Leaving his family behind, he arrives in Bali determined to build a better future. Working within the hospitality industry, he dedicates himself to serving guests from around the world with professionalism, patience, and genuine care.
Alongside colleagues who share similar hopes and sacrifices, Baskara navigates the realities of life away from home. Through acts of kindness, meaningful encounters with guests, and the support of those around him, he begins to realise that hospitality is more than service.
It is empathy, generosity and human connection.
As friendships deepen and a sense of community emerges, Baskara discovers something he never expected to find. Far from the place he once called home, he finds another one. A place where people care for one another. A place where he belongs. A place he can proudly call home.

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

Home Away was inspired by the many people who leave their hometowns to pursue opportunities in Bali. While visitors often experience Bali through its hotels, resorts, and attractions, there are countless workers whose personal stories remain largely unseen. Many arrive carrying hopes for a better future and the responsibility of supporting families back home.
What moved me most was not only their dedication to work, but the communities they build along the way. Away from home, colleagues become friends. Friends become family. Strangers become sources of comfort and support.
Through Baskara's journey, I wanted to explore the emotional realities behind that experience, the sacrifices, the loneliness, the resilience, and ultimately the sense of belonging that can emerge in unexpected places.
Although Home Away is set within Bali's hospitality industry, it is fundamentally a story about people. It is about family. It is about community.
And it is about discovering that home is not always defined by where we come from, but by the people who stand beside us.

A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS

This short film, Rumah Kedua (Home Away), represents a vision and dream that I have carried forthe past five years, and I am truly grateful that 52 Studios has helped bring it to life.

This project marks a meaningful collaboration between ARM Hospitality Indonesia and 52 Studios Singapore, combining creative storytelling, professional production expertise, and a shared commitment to excellence. Through this partnership, we have transformed an idea that began as a personal aspiration into a compelling visual narrative. It is our sincere hope that Rumah Kedua will inspire people to pursue their passions with courage, embrace life with love and compassion, and uphold integrity in everything they do.

More than just a film, we hope it serves as a reminder that purpose, dedication, and genuine human values can guide us toward creating a meaningful life and a place we can truly call a Rumah Kedua.

- Ronny Soetanto

(CEO, ARM Hospitality Group)

When Pak Ronny first shared his vision for Rumah Kedua with me, I was deeply moved by its simple yet powerful story about responsibility, sacrifice, and the often unseen individuals whose work touches the lives of so many. It was a story about people, and that was what convinced me to support the production.
Beyond the film itself, Rumah Kedua also represents a meaningful collaboration between enterprises from Singapore and Indonesia, bringing together talents, ideas, and shared values from both countries.

Through this project, we hope not only to tell an authentic story but also to strengthen friendships, foster greater understanding, and create opportunities for future partnerships between our communities.

I am truly honoured and excited to be part of this journey and look forward to seeing the connections that we had fostered continue to build across borders.
